Wearing sunglasses can help protect your eyes
from damage caused by harmful ultraviolet radiation. To get the most protection, follow these simple steps:

  • Always wear sunglasses outdoors during the day. The most important protection factor is how often you actually wear your sunglasses. Damage from UV radiation is cumulative, so protect your eyes every day, all year long. Remember that harmful rays are present even when it's cloudy and in the shade.
  • Before you purchase sunglasses, make sure they fit correctly and are comfortable. You are more likely to wear your sunglasses all the time if they fit well and feel good.
  • Own at least a few pairs of sunglasses - different pairs for different functions (sport glasses, beach glasses, driving glasses) or different style statements. Like shoes, sunglasses should be considered a necessary accessory and should be functional for the activity at hand.
  • Choose sunglasses that block 100% of UVA and UVB. Cliff Weil's sunglasses provide 100% UV protection, which means they protect against both kinds of radiation and, with regular wear, reduce you cumulative exposure to the sun.

When choosing your everyday sunglasses, remember these things:

  • Lens darkness is not related to how much UV is blocked. Lightly tinted lenses can easily block up to 100% UV. However, darker lenses can better protect night vision and may also provide greater comfort depending on use and light sensitivity of the wearer.
  • Be wary of "blocks harmful UV" claims without the degree of protection in percent UVA and UVB. Always look for the percentage.
  • Some styles of sunglasses may allow a significant amount of UV radiation to reach your eyes and the skin around your eyes. Wrap and shield styles offer the most protection by blocking rays from the sides.
